It's best not to join this Cluub! Cluub Zarathustra - Attention Scum Pleasance The Stage 28/08/1997 CAMERON ROBERTSON Club Z returns again for more brainwashing of the highest order. Simon Munnery (alias Alan Parker) is The League Against Tedium, a super-being of 1984 proportions who is better than us. He uses a large screen with hidden messages and short sketches to command his all-seeing, all-knowing, all- powerful, all-baloney facade over us. A range of stars - including Kevin Eldon, Jason Freeman and Stewart Lee - have their potential talent colossally wasted in sketches that were probably thought of as a passing indulgence. But Munnery's super-geek host with a trendy mike-staff is not bad. I confess the majority of my nine laughs were as a result of his beady- eyed Kenneth Williams-on-something-strong expressions. There were multiple cock-ups, pyrotechnics, music and props. But the bottom line was the huge audience which was laughing at largely poor material, delivered by decent solo stand-ups. Wasted talent - (top, left to right) Roger Mann, Julian Barratt, SImon Munnery, Jason Freeman and Kevin Eldon, and (bottom) Sally Phillips and Stewart Lee are all part of Cluub Zarathustra at the Pleasance
